Satsanga
Siberians was established in 1996 by Carmen M. Schnider-Kemp, a
Swiss who immigrated to South Africa in July 1993. After a
skiing trip in Switzerland having a Cappuchino on the terasse of the
Eigerbahn Restaurant in Grindelwald, I got my first magical stare
from a black & white bi-eyed Siberian Husky and have become
passionate about this breed ever since.
Since Sukie, my
first pet in 1993, lots of water has gone down the river. I have
definitely learned about the dangers of owning this breed and
about the responsibility that goes with it. My goals have changed
dramatically from being a pet-owner to becoming a serious breeder,
exhibiting my dogs at conformation shows and sledding with a team of
six Siberians. The sledding became more attractive when I met my
husband, Stephan, who enthusiastically got involved with the
sledding and at first the showing. Lately, his passion for golf has
lured him away from the shows, but he still occasionally accompanies
me, especially to the May Durban shows, which is our favourite show
week-end. As to his involvement in Satsanga Siberians, he is the one
pulling a stuck puppy out in the middle of the night, I'd be too
much of a wimp! He is the one rushing a dog to the Vet in an
emergency or taking care of the lot when I am facilitating a
training out of town. And last but not least, he is the shoulder to
cry on when I did not meet my expectations in the ring!
Our
dogs all live together as a pack and have almost one hectare to romp
and run. Their favourite past-time is to chase guinea fowls (luckily
they never catch one!), rats, snakes or other interesting living
creatures which decided to invade their territory. Our Siberians are
great couch-potatoes and always on stand-by as first tasters for
eventual snacks during cooking time or anytime anybody is near the
kitchen.
As our latest puppy is a human one, it is of utmost
importance to us that our dogs have superb temperaments like the
breed standard states: friendly, outgoing and
mischievous.
Our mission statement:
To breed
structurally correct, genetically sound, typey Siberian Huskies with
superb temperament, which excel in the conformation ring and can
perform their original purpose in harness.
